Doctoral alum Stephanie Stokamer, ’11, has gained national attention for her dissertation on service-learning. The International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) has named it the Dissertation of the Year for 2011. Titled Pedagogical Catalysts of Civic Competence: The Development of a Critical Epistemological Model for Community-Based Learning, it is considered exemplary research in this new field.
As the 2011 awardee, she is invited to attend this year’s IARSLCE conference in Chicago to accept the award and present a paper on her research.
“It’s really an honor and a thrill to be recognized by the top research organization in the field,” says Dr. Stockamer who has recently taken a position as director of the Center for Civic Engagement at Pacific University in Forest Grove.
